President's Letter - 2015

2014 was a Season of new beginnings for Swift Current Lacrosse. Thank you to the entire Executive and the members of Swift Current Lacrosse for all of your hard work and dedication making the season a success!! 

Last season our goal, as a group, was to focus on the “Grass Roots” and grow this club through exposure. In order to succeed with these goals we had to focus on a number of Firsts. We hosted our first development camp, we held our first lacrosse tournament, for the first time we accepted registrations for Tyke and Mini-Tyke. The reputation and credibility of Swift Current Lacrosse has continued to develop positively which in return will help us sustain this growth. 

In 2014 we had 87 members filling teams in 5 divisions; Mini Tyke, Tyke, Novice, Peewee and Midget. As an organization the results of the Rampage teams were successful; the accomplishments were highlighted with several trophies including a Peewee bronze medal finish at Provincials. Congratulations to all of the players from the 2014 Season!! 

Financially, we started last season with a lot of concern regarding the associated expenses to handle our growth. These costs included but were not limited to: goalie equipment, a new shot clock, and 5 new sets of jerseys. The support of Swift Current and surrounding areas was astonishing. We were able to receive over $4000 in sponsorship and approximately $9000 in grant funding. 

Our Website has now been live for just under a year and has been an integral part in keeping our membership updated with events as well as supplying information about our association to new players. We are still seeking a “Website Manager” to join our team; our goal is to add more content to the website and weekly news once this position is filled. 

The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association recognised Swift Current Lacrosse with the “Promotion and Development Award” at their AGM last fall. Our executive is very proud of this award; it symbolizes the passion and dedication put forth by all members of the Swift Current Lacrosse Association to continue to grow lacrosse locally. 

Our 2015 Season is quickly approaching and the momentum has continued into this season. Our registration has already reached 118 players and our number of teams is expected to rise from 5 to 10! Currently our breakdown of players, per division, is: 

-58- Tykes/Mini Tykes 
-20- Novice 
-17- Peewee 
-11- Bantam 
-12- Midget 

As we continue with the growth plan, created by the executive, our next stage will be to sustain the growth we have experienced. The key to this will be maintaining a strong group of volunteers; if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity please contact a member of the executive. We are looking forward to this coming season and are excited to see the next phase of Lacrosse in Swift Current!
